My Gold Envelope Review

These reviews are based on our personal experiences with the individual cash for gold companies and our rating reflects our feelings regarding our transactions with them. Your experience with the gold refiner/dealer may fare better or worse. But we always try to give the most accurate representation of what you are likely to find.

It is always a good idea to do your own research and find the company that works for you. We do these reviews because it is important for anyone looking to sell their gold to understand that very few online gold buyers will actually give you what your gold is worth. You would be surprised how many cash for gold businesses payout less than half the current price of gold. And not everyone has the time to properly look through and research the hundreds of gold buyers that are out there today. We hope these reviews will give you an idea of what to expect and will help you to make a wise decision.

The following is our updated review for My Gold Envelope or Dollars 4 Gold as they are also known.

We decided to re-review My Gold Envelope as we’ve had several readers complain about being ripped off by them. The first thing that we noticed was that their BBB accreditation was revoked and they now have a F rating due to over 50 unresolved complaints. That right there is a huge red flag. It also seems that the site is no longer promoted by the famous pitchman Anthony Sullivan like they once were.

Their “double G” guarantee, where they promise that if you find a better offer they will double it, is supposed to be their big selling point. And they now offer a $20 bonus for new customers for gold over 3 grams. They also have a 10 day money back guarantee but the problem with that is that, in our experience, you don’t get the check until after more than a week so it’s basically too late by then.

Although they have updated their site, they still don’t have their prices listed (you’ll see why below).  They are a gold buyer not a refiner which means that they act as a middleman and take a cut of the profits on top of the percentage that the refiner pays. To see if their pricing structure had changed, we decided to send about the same amount of gold as before – approximately $247. We received a check after 8 days for $93.26 which is under 40% of the gold’s true value. We asked for our gold back obviously but had a hard time trying to get them to send it back. We got confirmation that they did indeed ship it but it has been two weeks and we still haven’t received it. (Edit: We finally received our shipment after three and a half weeks.)

There is honestly no reason to use a middleman gold buyer like My Gold Envelope when there are better options like Sell Your Gold who will pay you more than double what these guys will.

I needed money badly and had debated for weeks about doing it,but decided to take a chance and sent my gold to “mygoldenvelope” Well here’s what happened I sent it off in their envelope almost two weeks ago and hadn’t heard anything so I go to their website put in their tracking number and they say they haven’t gotten it so then I go to the USPS and that’s not their tracking number at all then I read the fine print supposedly the carrier scans it so I call the USPS and they have no idea what I’m talking about they don’t scan those and thats not their tracking number. So I called “mygoldenvelope” back and they told me the THREE people I talked to @ the USPS lied to me and they screwed up, What? So it breaks down to this they insure your pkg. up to 500.00 but if there is no proof it was sent they do nothing if there is proof it was sent but not received then you only get 100.00 So they get my gold and keep it without paying me because the carrier doesn’t scan it , so I have no proof that I sent it. Taking advantage of people that have been out of work long enough to get desperate and needing money bad enough to trust them now i’m screwed.

Sorry to hear that Carie. Scams like that is one of these reasons that we created this site. You have no idea how often things like this happen with online gold buyers. That’s why it is important to make sure that you deal with reputable gold refiners only.

STAY AWAY from all companies like this Its a SCAM. I sent three to four thousand dollars worth of gold and they told me it was either lost or stolen at the post office.
They had the nerve to offer me one hundred dollars for my family heirlooms.
StAY AWAY!!!

I to sent my gold in to My gold Envelope. We were desperate in getting some extra cash. We also sent in one of our phones. This was almost 4 weeks ago, so far I have not seen anything in the mail, no response. It hurts like crazy when you loose your home, job and everything and then to be prayed upon by these guys. I wished I had seen your site sooner.

On October 22, 2010, I proceeded with the delivery of an envelope containing three (3) gold coins belonging to my family for over 60 years. On the aforementioned date, I deposited the sealed envelope in the drop-box of my former residence and waited for the confirmation response of the company regarding the arrival of the envelope and the appraisal of the content. However this never happened.

For some unknown reasons, which the staff of MyGold Envelope was never able to explained, the package never arrived. I repeatedly called Customer Service of the company week after week trying to find out the status of my package. The staff always addressed to me nicely and polite but they never came up with a solution for my problem, blaming to possible USPS delays. Finally last week, more than 1 month later, a member of Customer Services recommended declaring the envelope as “lost” and filing a claim with the company.

We assumed that the company, together with the USPS services, had a very secure and trustful system to pick-up and deliver the content of the envelopes. Now we know this is not the reality. The envelope was sent following the instructions provided via MyGold Envelope’s web site and in the letter enclosed to the envelope. We always trusted the services and the procedure as described by MyGold Envelope through the TV Commercial and website for sale of gold, as reliable, easy and trouble-free. The procedure described in the TV and website commercials appeared to be as easy as to deposit the envelope in your residence drop-box and wait for the payment a few days later.

I would never intend to use the services of MyGold Envelope again. It is true that someone from the USPS office may be responsible for my stolen property, but nonetheless there is a high risk involved in the services offered by MyGold Envelope, so high that me, being a first-time customer, experienced property theft in my first and last transaction with MyGold Envelope.

I sent in 3 cell phones I have not heard anything I told all my friends so they told me when you heard from them let us know. I need to get the little extra to help out well it didn’t . When I check with the UPS tracking they told me I was wasting my time thanks for nothing. It’s bad when a company when a company is not telling the truth but they WILL get theirs in the end. What goes arounds comes around

Hello, I noticed a lot of people were ripped off and that super sucks. Please take note that you may declare your loss as a “casualty” event on your taxes! Hope this helps a little.
