Cash4Gold Review

*These reviews are based on our personal experiences with the individual cash for gold companies and our rating reflects our feelings regarding our transactions with them. Your experience with the gold refiner/dealer may fare better or worse. But we always try to give the most accurate representation of what you are likely to find.

It is always a good idea to do your own research and find the company that works for you. We do these reviews because it is important for anyone looking to sell their gold to understand that very few online gold buyers will actually give you what your gold is worth. You would be surprised how many cash for gold businesses payout less than half the current price of gold. And not everyone has the time to properly look through and research the hundreds of gold buyers that are out there today. We hope these reviews will give you an idea of what to expect and will help you to make a wise decision.

Overall:
One of the most talked about cash for gold refiners has to be Cash4Gold. They run a lot of commericals and have even had some air time during the Super Bowl; so most people have heard of them by now. They have been in business since 2001 and are one of the many refiners based in Florida. Cash 4 Gold is no longer accredited with the BBB but they had well over 300 complaints before which is the most we’ve seen for any refiner.
So as you can see there is a big warning sign to stay away but we still wanted to try them out and see how much they paid since they don’t mention that anywhere on their site.
One of the first things that we did was to call them up and request one of their gold kits. I have to say their customer service is very helpful and courteous from what we’ve experienced (for many of our readers this wasn’t the case). Their gold kit is a little below average (it includes a simple non-padded USPS prepaid envelope with shipping label) and they only offer up to $100 in insurance through USPS. They also offer UPS shipping with insurance available up to $500. If you want more insurance you have to pay for shipping + insurance yourself which is what we had to end up doing. We also learned that they now offer “FastCash payment” where you include a voided check and waive your right to your return policy. We would highly recommend against this as they can offer you whatever they want and you have no chance at getting your gold back.
And now of course I need to mention their payout. It’s hard to gauge what exactly their payscale is since we’ve had all kinds of different payout reports from readers. But from our own testing with a $462 shipment that we had to insure ourselves – it’s not all that much. We got an initial offer for only $159.42 and that is with their supposedly 20% more cash. Obviously we were going to decline but when we called them up they did offer a payment of $319.22 – about 70% of its actual value. So even after doubling their initial offer it was still 20% less than what top refiners pay. Ever wonder how they can afford to run such an expensive advertising campaign?
I will say that they are quite fast at processing your gold. There was only three days between sending out the gold and getting an offer but we paid for our own overnight shipping with FedEx (because we needed the extra insurance) and not their standard gold pack through the USPS.
So although Cash 4 Gold wasn’t the worst gold refiner that we have reviewed, they certainly weren’t the best either. A low payout combined with questionable business practices makes for a rather undesirable gold buyer. Frankly you would be much better off if you went with a much higher paying refiner like Sell Your Gold or Empire Gold Buyers.
